On 8th November 2023, a letter was circulated on behalf of Cllr Bill Revans (Leader of Somerset Council) to the clerks of City, Town and Parish Councils. The letter referred to the financial emergency at Somerset Council and explained the financial position and the causes. A request was made to City, Town and Parish Councils to consider supporting Somerset Council to protect services. The level of support could range from providing a financial contribution to allow the continuation of a specific service, working in partnership with Somerset Council or by transferring the ownership and management of some assets and services.
Yeovil Town Council have agreed to explore the opportunities of asset and service devolution. The Town Council will be open and transparent about the level of support it will offer, following in depth investigations and discussions.
